What AI training data has actually sold for.

There is no price list for AI training data. There are public figures: court records, buyers' own pages, vendors' price guides and named press. Open any row for the source's own words. These are the anchors every negotiation in this market starts from.

  • An operating company's or nonprofit's records (email, documents, chat, calls and transcripts, CRM, billing and operations), licensed to Mode (BizBuyData) for AI training

Advertised range of a programme Mode Mobile (a Regulation A filer) opened on 13 Oct 2026: 20+ full-time US office employees (accounting firms 10+, law firms 6+), a 14-day nonbinding letter of intent, Mode de-identifies the copy over 15 to 30 days, payment expected in about 60 days (BusinessWire release, 13 Oct 2026). No completed deal is disclosed, and its H1 2026 Form 1-SA shows no revenue from licensing its own records.

Worked out on 17 Oct 2026 from the page's published estimator script (pricing.js), whose region multiplier is 0.75 of the US figure, the same ratio Handshake and micro1 use for Europe. For non-US teams the page adds that companies outside the US are reviewed case by case. Indicative, not an offer. Re-check in a browser.

Worked out on 17 Oct 2026 from the page's published estimator script (pricing.js), whose multiplier for 'another country' is 0.3 of the US figure, the same ratio Handshake and micro1 give 'other' regions. The page adds that companies outside the US are reviewed case by case. Indicative, not an offer. Re-check in a browser.

The range Mode's own estimator renders for these inputs, worked out on 17 Oct 2026 from the page's published estimator script (pricing.js) read that day; the script holds data volume and the number of sources fixed for every company, so only headcount, years and region move it. • One healthcare company's operating records (clinical workflows, billing appeals and other records it already kept), licensed through Shfa.ai to AI buyers

The intermediary's own claim of a payment: no company, buyer, date or terms are named and nothing independent confirms it, so it is filed as a claim, not a realised sale. Shfa.ai pays 'cash upfront, royalties, or both', so the total may not be one upfront price. Its domain dates from May 2025 behind a privacy proxy, and SimpleClosure's CEO cites its ads as an unproven buyer's seven-figure promises (SimpleClosure blog, 1 Oct 2026).

  • A medical facility's data (records it keeps in operation), licensed for AI training (Shfa.ai's headline range)

An unsourced headline range on an intermediary's page; it does not say who paid, how many facilities, or whether the deals were its own. SimpleClosure's CEO says Shfa.ai's ads promised founders '$1 million, $3 million, even $5 million' (SimpleClosure blog, 1 Oct 2026), a different and higher set of figures for the same programme.

  • Operating company's records, Pewter estimator output: 100 employees, 10 years in business, US firm (Pewter's licensing partner's payout model)

An illustration the site says may be lower, higher or unavailable after data review. The partner is not named. For the same inputs micro1's own estimator gives $379,290 to $888,088 (held as micro1-estimator-100-employees-10-years-us), about 1% lower; that closeness is an inference, not a statement by either site.

  • A company's operational and business data licensed to Ooak Data (headline)

A ceiling, paid in 2 to 4 weeks per the page; raised from 'Earn up to $300K' (read 11 Oct 2026). The same page still says deals to date run from $20K (the smallest closed) to several hundred thousand dollars, so no closed deal near the new ceiling is stated.

  • A company's workspace data (email, chat, meetings, CRM), anonymised and priced by Corpus

Priced on employee count, years covered, number of systems and volume; a written range comes before commitment and payment is one sum on delivery, 30 to 60 days from intake. Its headline still says up to $1 million.

What moves a price

Six things, in the order the evidence supports. Volume is last.

  1. Linkage

A ticket tied to the change that closed it and the discussion around it lets a buyer rebuild the whole task. The same records unlinked are worth a fraction.

  2. Scarcity

If a vendor can recreate the data by hiring contractors or generating it, it will. Niche industries, unusual tools and uncommon languages cannot be recreated cheaply.

  3. Clean rights

A buyer has to defend where its training data came from. Records with a checked rights file sell; records without one stall in the buyer's legal review.

  4. Exclusivity

A buyer pays several times more to be the only one. Whether to sell once at that price or several times at a lower one is the main decision in any sale.

  5. Who controls de-identification

In the airline auction one bidder offered more on condition that it ran the scrub itself, and lost. Control of that step is a priced term.

  6. Volume

The most overrated input. About a third of raw code disappears once duplicates, generated files and third-party code are removed.

How to read the board

A price on a buyer's own page is what it is willing to say in public, usually its best case. A price in a court record is what was actually bid. Where both exist for the same kind of data, the realised figure is the one to trust.

Every figure carries the date of the sale or the publication, not the date we read it. Prices here move within a quarter.

No figure is our estimate. The valuation tool is built on these rows and shows which of them it used.
